About the Role
We are looking for a proactive Group Paper & Waste Stream Manager to oversee newsprint supply, inventory management, and waste streams across three NHL newspaper production sites. This pivotal role ensures uninterrupted production, efficient material use, and effective waste management while supporting sustainability initiatives and compliance with environmental regulations.
You will work closely with production planning, press operations, procurement, logistics, and recycling partners to optimise paper usage, control costs, and drive continuous improvement across the group.
What You’ll Do
Paper Supply & Inventory Management
- Oversee group-wide newsprint inventory, ensuring sufficient stock for continuous production.
- Coordinate deliveries and forecasts with customer and shareholder procurement teams.
- Monitor performance, consumption, create weekly statements, and identify optimisation opportunities.
- Maintain accurate stock records and implement robust inventory control processes.
Production Paper Efficiency
- Analyse paper usage, newsprint and press performance, and equipment efficiency to maximise performance and minimise waste.
- Collaborate with production planning and press teams to optimise paper utilisation.
- Develop and monitor KPIs for paper efficiency and waste reduction.
Waste Stream Management
- Oversee the end-to-end management of paper waste, including handling of waste loads, collection, segregation, and environmentally responsible recycling of by-products.
- Manage relationships with recycling contractors and waste service providers to ensure efficient, compliant operations.
- Ensure all waste handling activities comply with environmental regulations and company policies.
- Manage waste-related reporting, including tracking volumes, recycling rates, and cost performance.
- Liaise with finance teams to support budgeting, cost control, and reconciliation of waste streams.
Sustainability & Environmental Compliance
- Support sustainability targets related to recycling, waste reduction, and material efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and reporting requirements.
- Lead initiatives to improve recycling rates and reduce landfill waste.
Operational Coordination
- Collaborate with procurement, production, press, and logistics teams to align paper supply with production schedules.
- Support decision-making during high-volume production or special editions.
- Coordinate paper movements between sites as required.
Data, Reporting & Cost Control
- Monitor paper consumption costs and waste stream expenditure.
- Produce reports on usage, waste volumes, recycling performance, and costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities across paper supply and waste management.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Develop standardised processes across sites for paper handling and efficient waste management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and sustainability performance.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in newsprint manufacturing, print production, or large-scale production environments.
- Proven ability to manage materials supply and waste streams.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and operational management skills.
- Leadership experience with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Effective collaboration and reporting skills.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance, sustainability, or newspaper printing operations is desirable.
